Who Sports ManagerDISC Is For

The Sports ManagerDISC is a sport-specific DISC Profile for people working across the operational, administrative, governance, and performance support side of sport, including athletic directors, senior sport administrators, high-performance leaders, general managers, sport science and athlete support staff, referees, and officials.

Athletic Directors & Senior Administrators

For senior leaders across college, professional, and national-program environments who are responsible for people, culture, performance systems, and program direction.

High-Performance Leaders & General Managers

Support leaders responsible for coaching staff, multidisciplinary teams, performance operations, and the decisions that shape how a program runs.

Sport Governance & Stakeholder Roles

Help people leading peers, coaches, boards, committees, and stakeholders build greater self-awareness around communication, influence, and decision-making.

Sport Science & Athlete Support Staff

Support sport psychologists, physiotherapists, medical teams, and athlete services staff to strengthen communication, trust, and the quality of off-field care.

Referees & Officials

Build self-awareness and communication skills for the people managing pressure, fairness, conflict, and decision-making in competition environments.

University Sport Management Programs

Use Sports ManagerDISC with students and emerging professionals in sport management, sport science, leadership, and related disciplines to build practical behavioral awareness before they enter the industry.

What the Sports ManagerDISC Measures

The Sports ManagerDISC measures the four DISC behavioral styles applied to the business and operational side of sport. This includes how sports managers, administrators, and performance staff communicate across departments, work with coaches and athlete services, make decisions under pressure, and adapt their style across different people, roles, and performance environments.

Natural style

How the person prefers to behave, also how they are likely to behave under stress.

Adapted style

How the person perceives they need to behave in their current environment.

How Sporting Organizations Use the Sports ManagerDISC

Sports ManagerDISC is used by sports organizations, athletic departments, and performance programs to build behavioral self-awareness, improve collaboration across departments, develop leaders, support hiring and succession, and strengthen onboarding.

Build Operational Self-Awareness

Give everyone – from event and support staff to athletic directors – the same behavioral tool and a shared language for how they work.

Strengthen Collaboration Across Departments

Reduce friction between performance, operations, sports science, coaching, and athlete services by helping each area better understand how the others work.

Develop Leaders at Every Level

Use the same profile throughout someone’s career, from their first operational role through to the general manager’s seat.

Support Coaches and Athletes More Effectively

Pair with CoachDISC and AthleteDISC to build a complete picture of an entire organization, using a consistent framework and language throughout the program.

Inform Hiring, Team Composition, and Succession

Bring behavioral insight into the people decisions that shape the program, from recruitment and role fit to leadership pathways.

Give newcomers a shared language for how the people side of the program works from day one.

Quick FAQs

Who is Sports ManagerDISC for?

Sports ManagerDISC is for people working on the operational or business side of sport, from competition, event, and support staff through to high-performance and sports science staff, athletic directors, and general managers. It is also commonly used with university students studying sport-related disciplines, including Sport Management, Leadership, and Sports Science, as part of our University Program, where the tools are integrated into the classroom.

The Sports ManagerDISC assessment takes 10–12 minutes to complete online. An individualized 40-page Sports ManagerDISC Profile Report is generated immediately after the assessment is completed.

Individuals complete the assessment themselves. We recommend a debrief with an accredited Team8 People DISC Practitioner; a sport psychologist, human resources professional, or your team or university’s own DISC-accredited staff member to get the most value out of the experience.

Sports ManagerDISC uses the same DISC framework as the Team8 DISC, but applies it to a sport-specific context. It is written in the language of athletic administration and sport operations, including coaching-staff meetings, board and donor relationships, stakeholder communication, and program-level decision-making. The Team8 DISC is the equivalent profile for business professionals and leaders.

Yes — as one input alongside experience, references, competency-based interviews, and skills assessment. We recommend using Sports ManagerDISC as part of a structured process, not as a pass/fail screen on its own. It also pairs well with the Sports Manager 360 for a fuller picture of someone already in role.
