The Eleven Core Assessments

All eleven Team8 People assessments use proven behavioral and Emotional Intelligence methodology. What differs is the context each one is written for and the framework it’s built upon. The language, examples, and applied strategies are calibrated to the environment the participant actually works in.

How to Choose the Right Assessment for Your Context

Three questions that shape the right choice

Click any point to expand.

What context does the person or group work in?

Sport, business, education, or tactical/emergency services/defense?
  • Each has purpose-built DISC variants written in the language of that environment, to start with the foundation of self-awareness.
  • Their experience level or type of role may determine whether the EI 360 or Leadership 360 is an appropriate next step.

What are you aiming to achieve through administering an assessment?

  • If using an assessment for the first time, building foundational self-awareness, or enhancing team communication, start with DISC Profiling.
    • We always recommend starting with a tool like DISC as awareness of one’s behavioral style can provide context and meaning to someone’s EI or Leadership 360 results.
  • If providing individualized development or building leadership capacity, layer the Emotional Intelligence 360 to go beyond self-awareness and explore the impact and awareness of an individual’s behavior on those around them.
  • If including as part of a performance review process or leadership development framework, use the Leadership 360 to formally assess individual leaders against eight critical leadership effectiveness capabilities to provide specific, relevant feedback and develop personalized performance and development plans.

Is this for an individual, teams, or organization-wide?

  • If individual (purchasing for yourself), you can choose the assessment most relevant for your own personal or professional development, the comprehensive reports provide detailed information and strategies to apply your learnings in your context.
  • If you are a consultant or practitioner working with numerous individual clients or a group together, or you’re exploring options with your team, talk to us about our group package or accreditation options to build your expertise and add to your tool-kit.
  • If you are looking for an organization-wide roll-out, talk to us about our tailored program or enterprise roll-out options, or explore in-house assessment accreditation training to bring the knowledge and capability internal.

How Team8 People Assessments Compare to Other Assessment Types

This comparison focuses on assessment categories rather than particular brands — so you can see how the type of assessment differs, not just the vendor.

Team8 People’s assessments sit within three well-established frameworks — DISC (behavioral), Goleman’s Emotional Intelligence model, and competency-based Leadership 360 methodology. Here’s how each compares to other categories of assessments in the market.

Compare With Other Assessments

Team8 People's DISC vs Other Personal & Behavioral Assessments

Click any point to expand.

DISC vs 16-Type Personality Assessments (e.g. MBTI-style)

16-type personality assessments — including the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) and similar tools — sort people into fixed personality types based on preferences (introversion vs extraversion, thinking vs feeling, etc.). They’re rooted in Jungian personality theory and are useful for exploring identity and preference patterns.

DISC, by contrast, is a behavioral framework — it measures observable behavior rather than internal preference. That distinction matters in practice for three reasons:

DISC vs Strengths-Based Assessments

Strengths-based assessments (talent themes, character strengths, and similar frameworks) focus on what a person is naturally good at and where they draw energy. They’re excellent for individual development conversations and career design.

DISC serves a different purpose. Rather than identifying strengths, DISC describes the how of someone’s behavior — how they communicate, how they make decisions, how they respond to conflict, how they behave in teams. In practice, strengths-based and DISC assessments are often complementary — strengths tell you what someone brings, DISC tells you how they bring it.

Team8 People’s DISC is also purpose-built for the applied contexts we serve. Where strengths-based tools tend to be organization-agnostic, Team8 People’s six DISC variants speak directly to sport, business, education, and tactical environments.

DISC vs Broad Personality Trait Models (e.g. Big Five / OCEAN)

Broad personality trait models like the Big Five (OCEAN) are the gold standard in academic personality research — they measure five relatively stable personality dimensions (openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness, neuroticism).

The Big Five is superb for research, personality science, and clinical applications. It’s less commonly deployed in applied team or leadership development because the language is technical and the framework is descriptive rather than prescriptive — it tells you what someone’s personality profile is, but not what to do with that insight in a coaching, coaching-of-coaches, or team-development context.

DISC is the applied practitioner’s tool. Team8 People’s DISC is statistically validated and reliable, but its architecture is optimized for immediate action — coaches, managers, teachers, and tactical leaders can use DISC insights the same day, in the language of their environment.

Compare With Other Assessments

Team8 People's EI 360 vs Other Emotional Intelligence Tools

Click any point to expand.

EI 360 vs Self-Report-Only EI Assessments

Many Emotional Intelligence assessments on the market rely on self-report only — the individual answers questions about their own EI, and the result reflects how they see themselves.

Self-report EI tools have a well-known limitation: the people who most need to develop their EI are often the least likely to accurately self-assess it. A leader with low self-awareness will typically over-rate themselves; a highly capable leader may under-rate themselves.

The EI 360 solves for this by building a multi-rater 360 into the assessment. Self-perception is captured alongside observer perception (from direct reports, peers, managers, and other stakeholders), giving a much fuller and more actionable picture of how a leader’s Emotional Intelligence lands in practice.

EI 360 vs Ability-Based EI Assessments

Ability-based EI assessments (such as tools built on the Mayer-Salovey-Caruso framework) measure EI as a cognitive ability — the participant is asked to solve emotion-related problems, and the assessment scores their performance.

These assessments are academically rigorous but typically require test-like administration and can be less accessible for applied leadership development contexts. They tell you what someone can do with emotional information, but not how they’re perceived by others in practice.

The EI 360 is designed for applied leadership development — grounded in Goleman’s well-established model (Self-Awareness, Self-Management, Social Awareness, Relationship Management), with the practical addition of 360 feedback that reveals both what the leader does and how it lands with others.

EI 360 vs Competency-Model EI Assessments Without a 360

Some EI assessments use a competency-model framework (like Goleman’s) but don’t include a 360. Team8 People’s EI 360 combines the widely-recognized Goleman four-element / 18-competency framework with a full multi-rater 360 — giving leaders both the theoretical rigour and the applied feedback they need to develop.

Team8 People's Leadership 360s vs Other Leadership Assessment Tools

Click any point to expand.

Team8 People Leadership 360s vs Developmental-Model 360s (e.g. Leadership Circle Profile)

Developmental-model 360s — including Leadership Circle Profile and similar tools — are built on adult development theory and typically measure leaders across a bipolar framework such as “creative competencies” versus “reactive tendencies.” They’re powerful for deep leadership development work, particularly at senior levels, and are often used with a facilitated coaching engagement over months.

Team8 People’s Leadership 360s take a different approach. They’re competency-based reviews that assess a leader against eight leadership effectiveness competencies calibrated for their specific context (athlete leadership, coaching, sport administration, or cross-sector business leadership).

The practical differences:

Team8 People Leadership 360s vs Developmental-Model 360s (e.g. Leadership Circle Profile)

Generic corporate leadership 360s are widely used in enterprise talent development. They’re typically calibrated for business leadership contexts and can be effective for corporate succession planning and executive development.

Team8 People’s Leadership 360 range extends this competency-based methodology across four distinct contexts — including sport-specific 360s (Athlete Leader 360, Coach 360, Sports Manager 360) that don’t have direct equivalents in generic corporate 360 frameworks.

Team8 People Leadership 360s vs Off-the-Shelf HR Platform 360s

Many HR technology platforms bundle a 360 tool as part of a broader talent suite. These are convenient for at-scale rollouts but often lack methodological depth — the competencies may be generic, the reporting may be shallow, and the tool typically isn’t grounded in behavioral research.

Team8 People’s Leadership 360s are built on a decade-plus of applied practice, delivered by accredited practitioners, and designed to integrate with development plans rather than sit as a one-off event in a talent platform.

Six Ways Team8 People Differs from Other Assessment Providers

Click any point to expand.

Team8 People offers six purpose-built DISC variants — for athletes, coaches, sport administrators, business leaders, teachers, and tactical operators. Plus, four different Leadership 360s for use with Athlete Leaders, Coaches, Sport Administrators, and Business leaders. Each is written in the language of the environment and role.

Most assessment providers offer a single business-focused assessment to be applied or translated across contexts. Team8 People assessments are ready to use out-of-the-box in the environment the participant actually works in.

Team8 People DISC and/or Emotional Intelligence Accreditation Training is a one-time investment. Once you’re accredited, you remain accredited — no annual fees, no license renewals, no per-report royalties on team outputs.

Most DISC providers charge ongoing accreditation, licensing, or partner fees. Team8 People only charges for the individual assessment credits you need, as you need them, at the wholesale rate.

All facilitator workbooks, session guides, debrief templates, and marketing materials are included in Team8 People Accreditation — no post-course add-on purchases. Many providers sell these separately.

Every accredited practitioner and organizational administrator has access to the DISC AI Coach — the practitioner tool for contextualizing results, preparing workshops, and extending the life of DISC deployments. We are not aware of an equivalent tool offered by any other assessment provider.

One accreditation gives access to six DISC variants, four Leadership 360 reviews, and one EI 360. Practitioners and organizations working across sport, business, education, or tactical contexts don’t need multiple provider certifications — the same accredited consultant can deliver Team8 People assessments across every context they serve.

Team8 People was founded by Bo Hanson — four-time Olympian, three-time Olympic medalist — with three decades of applied behavioral and Emotional Intelligence practice across sport, business, education, and tactical environments sitting behind every assessment we deliver. Team8 People is led by CEO Dr Liz Masen, whose published PhD research and academic partnerships keep the methodology grounded in evidence.

Quick FAQs

Direct, search-friendly answers to the questions we’re most often asked — structured to help prospective clients and practitioners understand where Team8 People sits in the market.

Which DISC assessment is best?

The best DISC assessment is the one written in the language of the environment where it will be used. For athletes, that's AthleteDISC; for coaches, CoachDISC; for sport administrators, Sports ManagerDISC; for business leaders and workplaces, Team8 DISC; for teachers and school faculty, TeacherDISC; and for police, fire, ambulance, and defence personnel, TacticalDISC. Team8 People is the only provider offering six purpose-built DISC variants under a single accreditation — so practitioners and organizations don't have to compromize between context relevance and cross-context capability.

Yes — when the specific DISC assessment used is statistically validated and reliable. Team8 People's DISC assessments are all statistically validated and reliable, and Team8 People holds the world's only statistically validated and reliable DISC assessment specifically for sport. Validation matters — not every DISC assessment on the market is validated to the same standard. When evaluating a DISC provider, ask directly whether the assessment has been statistically validated for reliability.

DISC is a behavioral framework — it measures observable behavior. MBTI-style personality assessments measure internal preferences and sort people into fixed types. The practical difference: DISC translates directly into what someone does, how they communicate, and how they respond in real situations — making it faster to teach, easier for teams to remember, and more immediately actionable in coaching, leadership development, and team environments.

Strengths-based assessments identify what a person is naturally good at. DISC describes how a person behaves — how they communicate, make decisions, respond to conflict, and operate in teams. The two are complementary rather than competing. Team8 People's DISC is particularly powerful in applied contexts because each of the six variants is calibrated for the specific environment the participant works in.

No. Team8 People DISC and Emotional Intelligence Accreditation is a one-time investment — once you're accredited, you remain accredited. There are no annual fees, no licence renewals, and no per-report royalties on team outputs. This is a key difference from many other DISC providers who charge ongoing accreditation, licensing, or partner fees.

Yes. A single Team8 People DISC Accreditation gives you access to all six DISC variants — AthleteDISC, CoachDISC, Sports ManagerDISC, Team8 DISC, TeacherDISC, and TacticalDISC — plus the ability to purchase Leadership 360 reviews and the EI 360 as needed. Practitioners and organizations working across multiple contexts don't need separate certifications for each.

DISC Accreditation is delivered as a structured program covering theory, application, debrief practice, and case-based learning. Multiple formats are available including intensive workshops and cohort-based virtual delivery. Talk to a specialist for the accreditation format that fits your context and timing.

The EI 360 is built on Goleman's four-element, 18-competency Emotional Intelligence framework — with a multi-rater 360 built in. That combination distinguishes it from self-report-only EI assessments (which are limited by the fact that the leaders who most need EI development are often the least likely to self-assess accurately) and from ability-based EI tests (which measure EI as a cognitive skill but don't reveal how a leader's EI actually lands with others).

We always recommend starting with DISC. Awareness of one's own behavioral style provides the foundation of self-awareness needed to make sense of any subsequent Emotional Intelligence or Leadership 360 feedback. DISC also translates immediately into everyday behavior, giving individuals and teams a shared language to build on before layering in the deeper reflection an EI 360 or Leadership 360 involves.

Developmental-model 360s like Leadership Circle are built on adult development theory and typically measure leaders on a bipolar creative-versus-reactive framework. Team8 People's Leadership 360s are competency-based reviews that assess a leader against eight leadership effectiveness competencies calibrated for their specific context — with dedicated variants for athlete leaders, coaches, sport administrators, and cross-sector business leaders. Team8 People also offers context-specific Leadership 360s (Athlete Leader 360, Coach 360, Sports Manager 360) that don't have direct equivalents in generic corporate 360 frameworks.

Yes. Individuals can purchase any Team8 People DISC assessment directly through the Team8 People shop, and the comprehensive report includes detailed strategies for applying the results in the individual's context. For teams, groups, or organization-wide rollouts, we recommend engaging an accredited consultant or exploring Accreditation to build the capability in-house.

Yes. Leadership 360s are designed to formally assess individual leaders against eight critical leadership effectiveness competencies, providing specific, relevant feedback and the evidence base for personalized performance and development plans. Many organizations use Team8 People Leadership 360s as part of annual performance review cycles, executive development programs, and succession planning frameworks.

Team8 People Accreditation includes facilitator workbooks, session guides, debrief templates, marketing materials, and access to the DISC AI Coach for practitioners and account administrators. Most DISC providers charge for these resources separately or bundle them into ongoing licence fees. Team8 People's model is a one-time accreditation investment plus wholesale-priced assessment credits as you use them.

The DISC AI Coach is Team8 People's practitioner and administrator tool for contextualizing DISC results, preparing workshops, generating debrief prompts, and extending the life of DISC deployments across a client base. It is included with all administrative account-level access — every accredited practitioner and organizational administrator has it as standard, with no additional fee. We are not aware of an equivalent tool offered by any other assessment provider.

Team8 People operates through an accredited consultant network on every continent. Explore the Consultant Locator to find accredited consultants near you, or contact Team8 People centrally and we'll match you with the right consultant for your context and language.

The team is supported by an accredited consultant network of practitioners worldwide.
